Meet Virginia'sAble Woman
Removing the "dis" from disability.
Vinceretta Hicks turns a lifetime of being told she was "different" into a mission of courage — teaching children that they are capable, valued, and never alone.
A voice for those who feel unseen
A Richmond native and proud Virginian, Vinceretta Hicks has made it her life's mission to spread awareness about bullying and suicide prevention — and to remind every child that being different is not the same as being less.
Growing up, she was bullied by peers and even shamed within her own family. Today she uses that very voice to teach children to embrace exactly who they are.
One leg shorter — and nothing slowing her down
Born with one leg significantly shorter than the other, Vinceretta wears a prosthetic and has spent her life proving what "able" really means.
Stories that teach kids they're Able
Vinceretta's illustrated children's books carry the Able Woman message of courage, kindness, and standing up to bullying. Every purchase helps donate books to schools and children in need.
